[Event] Hunt Mister X

Rain poured down onto the darkened streets of Yorknew City, leaving rivulets of murky water trickling down drain pipes and filling the atmosphere with a pervasive gloom. Not a single star was able to break through the thick layer of clouds that persisted in the vast skies above the city, and the only sources of light to be found were those that poured from windows or street lamps. On the other side of one of those dimly lit windows, stood Northland Wellbrook. Northland was staying in Yorknew for business purposes and had retired to his hotel room for the night. It was still rather early, but he intended to enjoy a quiet evening and remain in a comfortable shelter to avoid the rain. He was merely enjoying the scenery of the fragile drops of water splattering against the window pane when suddenly there was a large clattering noise that sounded like something metal being shaken or banged against something else. Northland was a bit startled, and he took a step back from the window before rational thought took over. The sound seemed to be coming from very close, and from what Northland could hear it seemed to be getting closer. He opened his window, not worried about the carpet or himself getting a little wet, and popped his head out to try and ascertain the source of the clattering.

At the same moment he did so, a wild flash of lighting pierced through the wall of clouds that seemingly lit up the whole of Yorknew City. In the aftermath of that massive burst of light, Northland witnessed what it was that was causing the noise. Climbing up the drainage pipe of the hotel with ease, at a height of what must have been at least several stories, was a shadowy humanoid figure that, to Northland's eyes, seemed to be smiling in the pouring rain. The flash of light dispersed just as soon as it had come, and Northland was once again unable to see through the darkness that stood between him and that mysterious figure. Through the harsh sounds of the pouring rain, the clattering noise continued for a moment, before being replaced by the sound of another window opening above him, and the scream of a woman piercing the night air.

Without thinking, Northland rushed out of his own hotel room, his bright red hair dripping from the pouring rain, and dashed towards the emergency stairs of the hotel. He had no time to wait for an elevator to rise up from the bottom floor, for all he knew that figure could be cutting that woman's throat right now. Northland scrambled up the metal flight of stairs, not about to let some crazed madman have his way with some innocent woman. He certainly wasn't sure what was going on, but his instinct told him that mysterious figure wasn't some romantic boyfriend surprising his lover with a dramatic entrance. As he burst through the door on the above floor, Northland wasn't sure what to expect. What he saw was certainly not within the range of events he had prepared himself for. Chasing after the figure at the end of the hallway, who appeared to be darting out of another window at the end of the hallway, was a young woman whose screams matched up perfectly with the one he'd heard just moments before. Though rather than covered in her own blood, she wasn't covered in anything at all. Holding one forearm over her exposed breasts to protect her modesty at least somewhat, she used the other arm to throw a hairbrush with all her might towards the end of the hallway in an attempt to strike the shadowy figure escaping through the window.

The woman, regaining a bit of her rational now that the man was gone, jumped a bit when she heard the door behind her swing shut. She quickly turned to the source of the noise, only to see Northland standing there with a very confused look on his face. The woman shrieked once more, realizing once more that she was indeed very naked, and darted back through the door to her room and Northland heard the click of it locking. The young business mogul wasn't sure what to make of what he had just seen, and he wandered towards the end of the hallway in a bit of a daze. He peeked his head out through the window and peered down towards the street just in time to catch a glimpse of the figure darting out of the glow of one of the street lamps. He stood there for a few minutes, still not sure of how he should be reacting in this situation, but also very curious as to several things regarding it. Including what had happened in that woman's room, who that mysterious figure was, and also how he'd climbed a drainage pipe up to that height in the pouring rain, but mostly importantly he was curious as to what could have been the cause for that manic grin of his. Maybe Northland would have to look into it.
